The Man that discovered sugar

Note: This story isn't real. It's fictional.
Once upon a time there was a man called Thomas Rodrigo Longsword.
Thomas lived in a small village near Blackpool, England.
He was quite a man. He was an explorer so he had travelled to many other countries.
Back then this was very popular, because it wasn't as easy to travel.
This time Thomas and his crew were going to India to research an unusual plant, which looked like a tomato, but had a different taste.
When they arrived at the train station, after many days of travelling, Thomas stepped over a funny looking plant. He had never seen this before, so he went and asked a native if they knew what this was. The reply was "Sukkar". "What?", Thomas questioned.
The lady kept repeating what she had said, but Thomas still couldn't understand. Finally Thomas decided that he would call this plant, Sugar. When he came to his hotel, he cut open the plant and realised that there was something sticky inside. He tasted it. It was so sweet! The next day when Thomas was going out to explore the sites, he had accidently left the rest of the sugar out in the sun, so when he came back to the hotel, the sugar had turned into crystals.
That is my little hypothesis on how sugar was brought from Asia to the rest of the world.
Note: Sugar comes from India originally in the ancient times. Before sugar was brought to Europe they used honey as sweetener.
